Home Stereo Receiver to power car?

I was wondering if I could hook up my home stereo receiver up in my car using a power inverter to use as an amplifier instead of buying a car amplifier. The Receiver is a STA-100 Realistic... Good luck finding any info on it though, it's ancient.
