Can we use an inverter with synchronous motors for their control?

Synchronous motors, by definition, run at the same speed as the power supply frequency, so in principle the answer is yes. However, inverters are usually designed to work at a single constant frequency, and would not allow the motor speed to vary. You could design a variable frequency inverter, though.
